The World'sMost BrutalCombat Sport
No gloves. No mercy. Headbutts allowed. Over 1,000 years of tradition meets the global stage. Lethwei Fighting Championship is bringing Myanmar's bareknuckle boxing to the world.
What is Lethwei?
Lethwei is Myanmar's traditional bare-knuckle boxing — one of the oldest and most intense martial arts on Earth. Fighters use fists, elbows, knees, kicks, and headbutts. In traditional rules, a fight can only be won by knockout. There are no judges, no decisions — only warriors.

Bare Knuckle
No gloves, only traditional hand wraps. Raw striking power as nature intended.
Headbutts Allowed
The only combat sport in the world that permits headbutts. A uniquely devastating weapon.

The History of Lethwei
From the ancient Pyu city-states to the global stage, Lethwei is the oldest and most raw form of striking combat.
Origins in the Pyu City-States
Warriors of ancient Myanmar develop a bare-fist fighting system using fists, elbows, knees, feet, and the head — nine weapons of the body.

Bagan Empire Adoption
Lethwei becomes a cornerstone of military training across the Bagan Empire. Fighters compete in sandpits during royal festivals.

Colonial Resistance
Under British colonial rule, Lethwei persists as a symbol of Myanmar identity. Village tournaments keep the tradition alive across generations.

The World is Watching
Lethwei is the most exciting, raw, and pure form of striking combat I have ever witnessed. It makes every other combat sport look tame.
Myanmar's bare-knuckle boxing tradition is over a thousand years old. Headbutts, no gloves, and a knockout-only mentality — Lethwei is in a class of its own.
The atmosphere at a Lethwei match is unlike anything in Western combat sports. The traditional music, the warrior dances, the raw intensity — it's transcendent.
Frequently Asked
What is Lethwei?
Lethwei is Myanmar's traditional bare-knuckle martial art, often called 'The Art of Nine Limbs.' Fighters use fists, elbows, knees, feet, and the head. It is considered one of the most brutal and oldest striking arts in the world, with roots stretching back over 1,000 years.
How is Lethwei different from Muay Thai?
While both arts share Southeast Asian origins, Lethwei permits headbutts — the ninth weapon — which Muay Thai does not. Traditional Lethwei also uses no gloves (only hand wraps), and historically, the only way to win was by knockout. There were no judges and no decisions.
